A common misconception is that after surgery to remove cataracts, patients will always need glasses to correct their vision. At the time of a cataract operation, a doctor uses the Orange WaveTec, a front-line technology that gives him the ability to actually “take a picture” of the eye to verify that either the myopia (nearsightedness) or the astigmatism, was properly corrected. The Orange WaveTec shows the doctor the correct Intraocular Lens was selected. As a result, the patient may not need any glasses after surgery, because the doctor is able to correct the eye prescription in “real time.” In adults over 55 years of age, cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss. A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of the eye, blocking some of the light and impeding a person’s ability to see clearly. Once a cataract begins forming and interfering with vision, there is no medication or therapy to stop or reverse its progress. Surgery, through a tiny incision, is the only way a cataract can be removed. the doctor then replaces the natural lens, with a new Intraocular Lens implant in its place. The cataract operation is painless and most patients are back to their normal schedules within a day or two.
